Background of the Study
Emergency response protocols are established guidelines that healthcare professionals follow to manage critical and time-sensitive situations effectively. These protocols ensure that patients receive timely, standardized care, which can significantly improve their chances of recovery (Ibrahim & Adekunle, 2023). In hospitals, these protocols are essential for managing emergencies such as cardiac arrest, trauma, and stroke (Ogundele & Akinbile, 2024).
At Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi, emergency care is a priority, and protocols are in place to guide healthcare workers in providing quick and efficient care. However, the effectiveness of these protocols in improving patient outcomes has not been thoroughly examined. This study aims to evaluate the impact of emergency response protocols on patient outcomes, particularly focusing on survival rates, recovery times, and long-term health improvement.
Statement of the Problem
While emergency response protocols are designed to improve patient outcomes in critical care, their actual effectiveness in achieving better health results remains uncertain. At Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi, emergency protocols are followed during acute care situations, but it is unclear whether these protocols truly enhance patient outcomes or if there are areas for improvement.
This study will assess the effectiveness of emergency response protocols in improving patient outcomes at the hospital and identify areas for potential enhancement.
Objectives of the Study
1. To evaluate the effectiveness of emergency response protocols in improving patient outcomes at Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi.
2. To identify the factors that influence the effectiveness of these emergency response protocols.
3. To recommend strategies for enhancing the emergency response protocols to improve patient outcomes.
Research Questions
1. How effective are emergency response protocols in improving patient outcomes at Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi?
2. What factors affect the effectiveness of emergency response protocols in the hospital?
3. How can emergency response protocols be improved to enhance patient outcomes?
Research Hypotheses
1. Emergency response protocols improve patient outcomes at Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi.
2. Delays in protocol implementation negatively affect patient outcomes in emergency situations.
3. Regular training and updates to emergency response protocols improve patient recovery and survival rates.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on patients receiving emergency care at Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi, and the role of emergency response protocols in improving their outcomes. It does not cover non-emergency cases or other hospitals. Limitations may include the inability to control for external factors affecting patient outcomes.
Definitions of Terms
